Adelaide’s music industry is in crisis.

It's no secret that the last two years have been a struggle for the Australian live music industry. With constant show cancellations, ever-changing restrictions and rules that seem to apply only to us – we're in what seems to be a never-ending battle to keep our heads above water.

South Australia in particular, has seen consistently tight restrictions aimed at live music venues and audiences, making it almost impossible to plan full-capacity gigs. Compared to our mates in NSW who have received far more funding than us here in “The Festival State”.

We talked with CityMag about the frustrations within the industry we see on a daily basis.

Head Rebel Bel had this to say about the current restrictions:

"After two years, to have watched everyone around me constantly pivot and support each other and get through some really hard times – potential venue closures and cancellations and all those things – for everyone to have been really excited, and for this to happen, it feels like we’ve been lied to along the way. There’s been a lot of false hope.

Have a read of what several event promoters and vendors had to say about the state of the Australian music industry here.
